Chapter 1 – A Temple in the Sky After stepping through the membranous barrier of the gateway the group finds themselves floating, caressed by what seems to be nothing. Shossk and Calt find themselves in the void, followed quickly by Yoko. For a few moments, they float together in the void before Iris’s tentative entrance. Finally, when Layl and Nacht leap through the entire world seems to go taut for a second before it snaps back. The group finds themselves in empty air, surrounded by blue skies and puffy clouds. A moment of weightlessness and then the wind begins to whip by you, the sound of air rushing by your ears quickly becoming a roar. Far below, hanging suspended like clumps of algae sitting on a bright blue pool lies an archipelago of green and brown islands. Other than your party the eight spots of land appear to be the only things in the sky, although at the moment they look like pebbles scattered on the floor. With each passing moment, they become larger and larger, their topography coming into focus. The topmost island appears to be the smallest, with each beneath it growing larger until the last which appears to be at least triple the size of the first. Although it's difficult to get a good read on the size differences from this angle. The topmost is bean shaped and mostly green with a large shining pool in the center, sparkling like diamonds in the sun. From the lake, a river sprouts cascading over the edge in a wash of white foam. Dense canopy trees pack the island otherwise. You can barely see beneath them, they are so tightly crowded that they seem to form a sea of green. Island Two lies beneath and to the right of the topmost, the river collects in a smaller lake and continues down to cascade off the side once more. The tops of a few buildings made of light brown stone can be seen jutting from beneath the foliage but you cannot get a good look at them. Islands three through seven are much the same with different layouts, each new island sits slightly off center from the one above forming a spiral pattern. Smoke can be seen rising on Three and Six, although the source is obscured by the tightly woven greenery above. Island Eight, on the other hand, is quite different. On the fringes of the massive lake, there is the familiar greenery but the island houses yet another massive lake. A colossal stone temple stands on an island in the center, made of square steps. It appears to be surrounded by other stone buildings forming a large city in the expanse of blue. The water that has flowed down the other islands pooling in the lake.Unfortunately, at this distance, no details can be discerned. A cloud lazily floats by and the party punches through it, a brief moment of chill and wetness before you emerge from the bottom. The ground is getting closer with each passing second, the sparkling lake coming up to meet you. Everything seems to go "gloing" for a moment as you bounce off the surface of the lake. It feels as if you hadn't impacted the surface at all but the water is right beneath you. Languidly you rise and then gravity takes hold once again and you land with a resounding splash, sinking into the clear blue water.

Had Layl been correct? Did the gateway send the group somewhere entirely different from where it seemed to lead? Calt swims through the void around Shossk while he contemplates the situation and while the other trainers enter into the void after him.
Then they were falling.
Was this how the AL creature entertained itself? It kidnaps people, tricks them into believing there's a way to escape its grasp, and then has them unwittingly choose their method of execution? His thoughts went to his companions as he fell through the air, with AL's vision of Veska angrily berating him popping up as his most recent memory. A subtle, unpleasant feeling creeps into him, like he was suddenly a little more hollow than before.
In a last ditch effort, Shossk positions his body so he'll enter the rapidly approaching lake feet-and-tail-first. Maybe then his lower limbs will absorb most of the impact, and he'll manage to barely survive. Only instead of impacting the water like he was expecting, he swiftly decelerates and plings off the surface of the water. Shossk flails in the air for a moment before splashing into the lake. He thrashes for a moment to reorient himself in the water.
Huh. He wasn't dead, or hurt, for that matter. He glances about from underwater to see how the other trainers are doing, being perfectly at home under the surface.
Calt swoops down moments later, circling above the surface.

Yoko had been expecting a jungle on the other side of the gateway, but to her surprise there was only nothingness. There was only herself, Shossk, his Dartrix, and the portal they came through. Yoko thought about asking Shossk if he knew anything about their current predicament, but she had a sneaking suspicion that he would be just as in the dark as her. So instead, Yoko keeps to herself and waits quietly for the other two girls to hurry up and join them in the nothingness.
The sudden change in scenery from nothingness to clear blue skies with clouds was an even bigger surprise to Yoko, and she couldn't help but breathe out, "wow," at the scenery before her. That all changed the moment she looked down, and her stomach suddenly felt like it was empty. Once the feeling of weightlessness subsided and free-falling began, Yoko couldn't help but panic and flail while screaming in terror. Only when she needed to breathe did she stop screaming, but it took a great deal of willpower to stop herself from screaming again.
With the lake fast approaching, Yoko curled up into the fetal position and took in a deep breath, and then prayed that the landing would be quick and painless. And it was, though in a completely bizarre way. Instead of breaching the water like she had anticipated would happen, Yoko had instead apparently bounced off of the water with a 'boi~ing' sound effect that sounded like it came right out of a cartoon. Stranger still, it didn't even hurt. Yoko's second bounce unfortunately resulted in her first anticipated result, which completely threw her off since she was now anticipating to bounce off of the water.
Because of her failed anticipation, Yoko's body went into momentary shock, and she accidentally let go of the breath she was purposely holding. With very little oxygen now in her lungs, instinct took hold of Yoko and she swam up to the surface with all of her might. The moment she breached the surface she greedily sucked in fresh oxygen, only to then start coughing because of how intensely she inhaled. "What is wrong with this place?!" she shouted between coughs, struggling desperately to keep herself afloat.

Iris had the advantage of seeing that what appeared to be a gate wasn't what it had seemed to be. She had expected a lot of thing after walking through the rippling painting, so when it was just a void without anything trying to actively kill her (yet), she couldn't complain. Besides, with Vivi and Nacht coming in right behind Iris, she didn't exactly have a lot of time to enjoy the view, or lack thereof. The world stretched taut with what seemed like anticipation once the final two entered the stage and then, like a rubber band, it snapped back into place, but this time with more details, the rest of the world that would be the group's playing field for the near future. Sky, clouds, wind, islands of green so far below them that they looked like pebbles in the vast blue ocean of the sky-
Wait... what?
As the wind whipped and roared around her, yet somehow not stealing away her hat, Iris looked down at the now rock-sized islands. They were tiny, but becoming bigger at a frightening pace. The lurch her stomach had given earlier, which Iris had markedly felt but sort of just attributed to the aftereffects of coming out of a void, was now obviously because she had started falling. Well, no matter, a few more seconds in and the weightlessness returned as Iris entered free fall towards the spiral of islands Iris just now noticed weren't all on the same vertical level. Some looked to be further down than others, with the one directly beneath the group being the highest. Jungle flourished on all of the islands, so Iris couldn't blame AL for false advertisement, with settlement appearing to become more and more common on each progressively lower island. At least, Iris assumed the sign of visible smoke to be a sort of civilization built into the trees. The lowest, and incidentally largest island if Iris's assumption regarding the islands floating at different heights was correct, housed a giant lake, in the center of which was a giant temple. Like, it had to be huge if she could make it out from all the way up here. A temple. Temples were important, and this one was all the way on the biggest and last island. In the center of a lake surrounded by a city, no less. She'd put her money on the temple being their final destination, and since there was evidently no way of going back to home base, then the temple would need to be their goal.
Oh, yeah, Iris was making these observations while falling to what she could easily assume was her own death. The way she saw it, though, was that AL wouldn't kill them. Nah, in her experience with beings like him, they wouldn't go through all this effort just to kill their hapless victims with something like this. While Yoko screamed out her lungs and then assumed the fetal position and Shossk prepared for survival to the best of his abilities, Iris just sort of fell in an almost seated position, like she was being princess carried by the air around her, and did the best to take advantage of this time and vantage point to draw any further clues regarding their upcoming situation. From what she could tell, their best bet was to follow the large river to the edge of island one if they wanted to prioritize getting down asap.
Granted, as the first island's lake draws closer and closer without any signs of their descent slowing, Iris does grow worried. She passes through a chilly cloud and is only offered a few seconds worth of staring into the absurdly quickly approaching lake. too late now for any last thoughts, before physics decides to go haywire, but hey, that's not strange at all, and Iris bounces off the lake. Quite high, too. Almost lazily, her body flips through the air, Iris's cradled posture not changing a bit, as she processes what just happened. Her body descends before she can come to a conclusion, and this time, she does slip through the water's surface, the "gloing" of before replaced with the more expected, "splash!". Like the cold water that just hit her, Iris realizes with a shock that she had her notebook, sandwiches, and literally everything else in her now soaked bag.
Iris sputters up to the surface quickly, struggling to raise her bag over and above the water's surface in a last-ditch attempt to save the contents. However, while she's up and working with twisting her bag's strap into the right position, Iris sees Yoko struggling for dear life in the water. At least, it looked that way to Iris. There was a lot of splashing around and the variety of metal and wood sticking out here and there on Yoko's person gave the impression that she was carrying way too much to be able to stay afloat by her own power, even if she found the time to complain about the unexpected entrance. "Bang! Yoko!" Iris shouts, cupping her hands over her mouth, "Release Bang and he might be able to help!". Once she'd given up on saving her bag and its contents, Iris was treading water just swimmingly... or well, as swimmingly as an average human can tread water with water-logged clothes and pack. She'd need to get to the shallows soon, but as long as Yoko looked like she was having trouble, Iris was determined to stay in case she had to do something to help.

Layl was ready for there to be some nonsense, not exactly this, but she had been prepared for a fall. Nacht on the other hand let out a series of yips as he realized they were in the air. Layl was give a moment to see the world around her, and it seemed that it hadn't lied per say, but like she thought it didn't mean exactly what it showed. She had little time to congratulate herself before the fall actually began, this amount of height was a bit much, though she was used to extremes when it came down to it.
She was ready, turning her body so that her lower half faced the ground, her feet ready to hit the ground as her legs bent slightly. Nacht on the other hand, sent out a loud scream, which was lost to the wind. When they finally landed on the water, Layl was shocked when she bounced. She wasn't expecting a bounce pad here, but it was a welcome find to such a large drop. She went flying into the air, flipping once in preparation to land back on the bounce pad, and then she fell though. Water rushed all around her and she was immediately unprepared, she began swinging her arms in desperation, her legs kicking out as well. Nacht fared better in the aspect of not prepping for the second bounce, he smacked straight into the water on his way down from his bounce, though he knew he needed to start swimming, immediately heading for the closest piece of land he could see.
It took Layl a moment before she calmed down enough to make the proper strokes to get above the water, gasping for breath as she broke through. After a few gulps of sweet air she looked around to see where everyone was. She saw Shossk beneath the water, and Iris and Yoko starting to get their grasps as well. They had all survived, it seems. "Well, we're alive... I think?" She looked back down at Shossk, realizing they might have been given gills to make this easier, She immediately slapped at her neck in an effort to check.

Shossk weaves through the water, using his tail to help propel himself. He surfaces directly next to the flailing Yoko. "Do yyou need help? You may hold onnto me," he offers, turning his back to her.
He glances around, considering the group's options. "Iff we wish to dry our supplies, we will neeed a fire."

Layl finds no gills but upon closer inspection, she sees that she is now wearing a set of beige safari gear with a matching pith helmet on her head.

Thank Kingdom Hearts, just a costume change. Though when outfit changes like this occurred it meant that the place was themed in a certain way. Layl guessed that meant this was the Safari Zone. With her revelation only being a minor costume change, she decided it was high time to get out of the water. She looked around for a moment before spotting Nacht swimming towards land in the distance, that seemed an apt way to go. She informed everyone the way she was heading "Let's get to land as quick as possible!" and then took off, following after Nacht. He surely was heading towards land, after all.

Yoko was too focused on keeping herself afloat to follow up on Iris' suggestion, not that it was going to be followed up in the first place; Yoko still considers Bang as a fish (albeit a strange and otherworldly one), and as far as she knows, a fish couldn't possibly support a human's weight.
Yoko readily accepted Shossk's offer to help and reached out an arm to latch onto one of the lizardman's shoulder, all the while continuing to stay above the water with her remaining limbs. "Th-thanks, Shossk," she said to him, sincerely grateful for his help. Now that she wasn't in immediate threat of drowning, Yoko's random flailing slowly turned into proper treading, and her breathing in turn started to become more controlled.
Yoko listened to what each of her companions had to say in turn, and she nodded in agreement with what they suggested. "Y-yeah, let's get to land," she voiced her agreement, before she then tentatively pushed off of Shossk and started swimming over to where Layl was headed.

Yoko might note that, as she grabs onto Shossk, his scales are nearly as cool as the water itself. He was definitely cold-blooded.
With the group seeming to go to land, Shossk and Calt play escort to the three humans, Shossk watching out below water and Calt keeping watch above, both circling around the humans as they ponderously swim to shore.

As the group approaches the shoreline they find it packed with vegetation. Lilly pads as large as tables covered in light pink flowers, tall tightly woven reeds and thick green algae. Several fallen logs stick out at odd angles making going tough. As the beach approaches the group can feel the fine silt of the bottom squish underneath their feet. If anyone looks back they can see ripples zig zaging through the water behind them.

Shossk can see multiple shapes, at least three dark ones zipping through the clear water but moving close enough to the bottom that they kick up silt to obscure themselves. Far off to the side, he can see something bright blue moving along the surface much more slowly than the others.

Wasting no time, Shossk lifts his head above the surface of the water. "Thhree shapes approach from behind, another on the surface," he warns, pointing in the direction of the bright blue surface-shape.

Iris trails behind the others. Well, the others that weren't circling them like protective predators. <Vultures and sharks, oh my,> she couldn't help make the comparison despite the pure and helpful intents of Calt and Shossk. Upon reaching the shore, Iris made an amateur mistake. Her first concern wasn't for her surroundings. Instead, she ran up to dry ground as quickly as possible and pulled her bag off her person. Once mud gave way to reasonably not wet dirt, bonus points if there was any flat-ish rock, Iris would kneel down to the ground and rifle through her bag. Wet. Wet. Everything was as wet as her clothes. Everything but the sandwich bag, that is. Iris groaned and wished that she had placed her valuable in with her sandwiches. Right, like anyone sane would think to do that. Pushing aside her waterlogged music box, Iris pulled out her notebook and whimpered at its wrinkled, water-logged cover. She wanted to peel open the cover with the utmost care and see for herself the extent of the damage, but she resisted, pushing the notebook down and away from temptation. No, if she really cared about saving it, then she needed to wait without touching, let the pages dry and regain their strength. All so gingerly, Iris returned the notebook to her bag. She was about to do a slight rearrangement of the contents, supposedly broken items to the bottom and not broken ones to the top, when Shossk's warning brought her head back into the game. Meeting halfway and carefully shoving what little she had taken out of her bag back into her bag in an unorganized mess, Iris got herself ready for fight or flight as quickly as possible and stood back up once done. She tries to spot what Shossk is looking for, already assuming they were some sort of Pokemon from the bright blue of the figure to the side and the zigzag motions of the other three dark shapes.

Upon hearing the warning, Layl turns toward the water and starts backing towards the land behind her. She readied her blade and watched for the enemies in question. Not even a moments break, not that there ever was when it came to all these things. She stared at the waters in an attempt to make out the shapes. "Come out! We know you're there!"Perception:8 Nacht let out a growl beside her, staring at the water in anticipation as he sensed Layl's apprehension.

When the beach came into view Yoko picked up the pace, eager to get out of the water and onto land. Once she had dragged herself out of the water she took a few more steps to be clear of the lake, before then letting her waterlogged backpack slip off her back and collapsing into an exhausted heap beside it. The warning of danger elicited an exhausted groan out Yoko, but she forced herself back up into a seating position. She then turned her attention towards where Shossk was pointing, and squinted her eyes to try and see if she could make out any further details other.than just blue.

Iris manages to make out the shapes as they serpentine through the water, they appear to be some kind of round black Pokemon with quite large teeth and eyes and a long tail that expertly moves it through the water. The light blue shape raises its head to show a large bean shaped face with half lidded eyes, it begins to paddle closer to the sounds. Behind the group, a rock sprouts legs, arms and a head and turns to see what the commotion is about. The three black blobs burst from the surface as the reach the shallows. Initiative Bang 15 Layl 14 Nacht 12 Light 12 Shossk 11 Yoko 10 Iris 10 Hippo 6 Calt 5 Turtle 4 Leech 1 4 Leech 2 4 Leech 3 4 Recap of combat Yoko shakily gets back to her feet, still slightly exhausted from the swim earlier. Not only that, but her chest was starting to pound like crazy. She was in a real fight right now. She'd never been in one before. What was she supposed to do? Her attention turned to the three weapons attached to her backpack, and she quickly took out the quarterstaff.
Iris: Noticing that Yoko had yet to call out Bang, Iris spends a shift action to send Light out to stand besides her teammate. Reflexively, to the point that she forgets all her misgivings about the Zorua, Iris spends a swift action to channel her Pokemon, urging the Zorua through the link to keep Yoko safe. Of course, regardless of how ready Light was to be Iris's starter, that didn't mean that she trusted the human enough to be used as a meat shield. Still, Light obediently stayed besides Yoko while waiting for her commands. For her standard action, Iris concentrates on the leeches ahead of her, the most immediate threat since her group had attacked them and all that, and tries to pull up information on the unfamiliar Pokemon. At least, she felt like they were Pokemon. It wasn't just her gut that told her so this time. Her head did as well. How did she go about hunting for information? Well, one could say that one way was... intuitively familiar... but she wanted to try out the possibly new and shiny way first. Digging into the new collection of knowledge in her head, the stuff that replaced what she knew about shiny rocks (besides, totally not worth the trade), Iris sought any information that could help her understand the dark, worm-like water creatures in front of her.

Vazad (GM): The turtle cocks its head and tries to understand these concepts. Especially "Fall" and "Game"
Layl: "What does that even mean, Iris!"
Iris: Iris is in the middle of jumbling this thought and that thought together to try and explain her group's predicament when Layl's question strikes. Calt: Tumbles backward midair, but seems relatively unharmed (6 damage)
Calt decides not to take up the hippo on his challenge, but spots an opportunity instead. He belts both the hippo and the leech with an Air Cutter, slicing into both creatures!
Calt: Air cutter on both, Cone 2, Flying Special, AC 2 rolling 1d20 ( 19 ) = 19 Crit! rolling 4d8+40 ( 3 + 4 + 2 + 1 ) +40 = 50
Vazad (GM): The Hippo seems woozy from the blast of air. The turtle walks up and sits next to Iris while watching what's going on. Sensing how weak the Hippo is the Leech steps up and tries to drain Calts vital fluids. rolling 1d20 ( 1 ) = 1 The Leech misses Calt hoots a laugh as the leech that attacked him flops over itself
Leech 3 tries to do the same to Nacht Vazad (GM): rolling 1d20 ( 4 ) = 4 AC 2
Layl: hits, barely
Vazad (GM): rolling 1d8+6+12 ( 1 ) +6+12 = 19
Nacht: Nacht suffers 10
Vazad (GM): The Leech seems a bit healthier.
Layl pulls out one of the weird 'pokeballs' though hers seems to have some strange case on to of it, she shrugged, taking a step back before throwing it at the leech
Layl: rolling 1d20+1 AP spent ( 20 ) +1 = 21
Layl: rolling 1d100-25 ( 22 ) -25 = -3
Vazad (GM): The ball sinks into the shallow water rocking slowly. Bubbles escape for a few moments before it goes still.
Bleech captured.
Nacht runs on over to the next enemy, intent on making sure nothing else goes after his master, bringing his claws to strike
Nacht: rolling 1d20 AC 5 ( 3 ) = 3 Fury Swipes Miss
Iris: With the most imminent threat gone, Light looks around for where else she can help.
Layl: "I...did it?"
Iris: She tries to show up the other Zorua once more, aiming a pursuit at the final Leech. rolling 1d20 ( 20 ) = 20 she... uh... succeeds rolling 4d6+16 + 20 ( 5 + 2 + 5 + 3 ) +16+20 = 51
Vazad (GM): Leech 1 whimpers and back away slightly. Gooey activates reducing Lights speed by 1 stage
Shossk glances over at the flash of light as Layl captures one of the leech creatures. He pulls out a summoning sphere of his own, looks at it, looks at the hippo that decided to punch him, and just kinda... bops the hippo on the nose with it.
Shossk: rolling 1d20+1 spending 1 AP to boost ( 11 ) +1 = 12 rolling 1d100-5 ( 48 ) -5 = 43
Vazad (GM): The hippo rocks backward slightly as it is turned into light and sucked into the sphere. It rocks back and forth a few times before it stands still.
Floappull caught
Shossk edges backwards towards the trees to get a better angle on the remaining leech.
Vazad (GM): rolling 1d20 ( 9 ) = 9 rolling 2d6+8+13 ( 1 + 3 ) +8+13 = 25
The Leech falls unconcious
Combat complete!!
The unconscious leeches turn bright white and explode into a shower of coins that harmlessly rain around them.
Layl reconsiders that these may actually be heartless
Vazad (GM): When collected the coins amount to 300 of the AL currency.
Layl: "Get the Munny!"
Iris: "Currency. they look like what you'd use at the mart pc."

As Yoko was readying the finishing blow to take out the final Bleech, a part of her started to reminisce on those moments when the masked heroes that she admires would prepare their signature finishing move and defeat the monster of the week. That same part of her also sought to remind her that her current costume is very similar to that of a masked hero, so she could pull one of those cheesy moments off right now. In fact, she will do it right now, and a smile spread across her face at the thought of doing it. Not that anyone could actually see her smiling, or her face in general. At some point in the conflict (perhaps even before it actually started), the mask that was usually kept to the side of her head had been adjusted to now properly cover up her face. If one were to look at Yoko right now, they would have to admit that she definitely looked like a masked hero right now. She really did do a good job on her cosplaying. Now it was time for her to show off her acting prowess. "Hissatsu!" she declared as she suddenly struck a dramatic pose, her body building up with excitement as she prepared her own finishing move. "Sutaffu!" she first shouted, and in a swift moment she had suddenly closed the distance between her and the final Bleech, her quarterstaff aimed directly for the leech's midsection. With all of her might, she finally rammed her weapon into the enemy, which she declared by then shouting, "Sutoraiki!"
The blunt weapon connected beautifully, and the force behind it was enough to deliver the finishing blow to the Bleech. In the brief delay before the anticipated explosion, Yoko twirled around and struck yet another dramatic pose, just in time as the Bleech (and the rest of the unconscious Pokémon) exploded into many coins. Nailed it! Yoko couldn't help but internally pat herself on the back for managing to pull off her finishing move successfully.

Layl let out a sigh of extreme relief, She was almost out of that fight. She walked over and grabbed the ball from the water before it could be washed away. Now, did she have any potions? Preferably a Hi-potion would be nice. She opened up her bag and started rummaging through it, finding some potions, she immediately brought 2 out. "I only have potions? Darn, I wish I at least had a hi-potion for combat, these will do fine for now, though"
She brought the bottles out, placing one down and bringing the other up, it has some weird nozzle on top of it, for some reason. She shrugged, before bringing it to her mouth and spraying it in.
